State Vererans’ Bureau Releases New Video on Veteran Suicide Prevention and Awareness

The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services (MBVS) released a video to raise awareness of veteran suicides during Suicide Awareness Month and to connect veterans to mental health resources. Acting MBVS Director, Dave Richmond, noted that the Maine veteran suicide rate is higher than the regional, national and general population rates. Nationally, up to 20 veterans take their lives each day of which only 6 are enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Veteran Embarks on Walk Across 48 States

Kevin Kinkead, a 25-year-old Army veteran from Nebraska, is walking all of the 48 continental states to raise awareness about veteran suicide. A friend he deployed with committed suicide. He started his cross-country walk in Maine on August 8th. He expects his trip to take two years. To raise awareness and support the recently launched Maine Veterans Project serving at-risk veterans, Laura tackled a 148-mile bicycle journey from Wiscasset to Machias, Maine on August 29, 2015.
