2018 Maine Hire-a-Vet Campaign

Third Annual Hire-A-Vet Campaign Open Through December 2017

The Maine Department of Labor along with their sponsors kicked off their third "Hire-A-Vet" campaign on September 1st. The 2016 Hire-A-Vet campaign goal is at least 100 employers commiting to hire 100 veterans in 100 days. In 2016, 147 employers participated in hiring 197 veterans and in 2015, 135 employers participated in hiring 259 veterans. For more information, visit the Maine Department of Labor website.

Coutts Bros. of Randolph, Maine, recently won a national safety award given to only 16 companies in the nation. They have a line worker apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and the University of Maine. It takes someone -5 years to complete and has been very successful. About 25 percent of our staff is veterans.

Ireland Hill Farms in Swanville is a veteran-owned business. Jerry Ireland hosted Maple Sunday a week late, celebrating the grand opening of the first store in Maine to sell "Homegrown by Heroes" products with Governor LePage attending in the ribbon cutting ceremony. These products support Maine veteran farmers. They've grown from 20 to 140 participating farms in just the last year.

He continues to seek disability retirement benefits through the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.
