Sex Among Allies: Military Prostitution in U.S./Korea Relations (1997)

Category: Human Trafficking/Exploitation

In her 1997 article "U.S. Military Prostitution in Asia," Katherine H.S. Moon states that while 'Asian societies have borne the burden of the painful repercussions of militarized prostitution'  the U.S. is also impacted.  Many of the prostitutes divorce their U.S. military husbands (estimated 80%) and return to prostitution around U.S. military camp areas., but the American society has not gone untouched.  In the film "The Women Outside," Manhattan officials report that some U.S. servicemen accepted payment to marry Korean women, return to the U.S., and the women work in massage parlors and brothels.
