Community Guides: Identifying Veterans Experiencing Homelessness & Connecting With Services

Category: Housing/Homelessness

The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and the Department of Veterans affairs created these two short, quick-reference guides to assist communities to better:

  • Identify and refer veterans experiencing homelessness.
  • Connect people experiencing homelessness to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

They include tips, available assistance and means to connect veterans with as well as program contacts.

Identifying and Referring Veterans Experiencing Homelessness

Key Strategies for Connecting People Experiencing Homelessness to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Benefits

Both were developed during the VA's 5-year (2011-2015) campaign to end veteran homelessness and in support of its "no wrong door" philosophy to connect veterans to housing and other supportive services in a timely manner.
