State of Cardiovascular Health in Women Veterans (October 2013)

Category: Health Care

VA must move beyond its Primary Care and gender-specific care focus to ensure that women have equitable access to specialty care services. This is of particular importance for cardiovascular disease (CVD) which is the leading cause of death among women in major developed countries and many developing countries.  Nationally, (in the civilian sector) gender differences have been identified in CVD symptoms, physiology, quality of care and outcomes.  Little is known about the prevalence of CVD or CV care in women Veterans using VA health care.
